Nathi Mankayi’s Buyelekhaya Tour: A Night of Pure Soul at Emperors Palace

There are concerts you attend, and then there are concerts that remind you exactly why you love live music. Nathi Mankayi’s Buyelekhaya Tour at Emperors Palace on the 19th of September was definitely the latter.

From the moment the evening began, there was a beautiful sense of anticipation in the room. This wasn’t simply a concert; it felt like a celebration of Nathi’s musical journey, his artistry, and the body of work he has given us over the years.

And before Nathi even stepped onto the stage, we were treated to a beautiful moment.

Lwa Sets the Tone

Before the main performance, Lwa graced the stage with her presence and brought her own beautiful energy to the evening. But what made her appearance even more special was the moment she took to congratulate Nathi on his sold-out Buyelekhaya Tour.

It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture.

In an industry where artists can sometimes be so focused on their own journeys, seeing one artist genuinely celebrate another was refreshing. It was a beautiful acknowledgement of Nathi’s achievement and a reminder that a sold-out tour is something worth celebrating.

And then… Nathi arrived.

Nathi Mankayi Said: You’re Not Sitting Tonight!

Let me tell you something — I never sat down. Not once!

For the entire two hours, I was on my feet. Singing. Dancing. Screaming. Appreciating. Living!

Nathi took us through his music catalogue and, honestly, it felt like one big musical memory lane. There are certain songs that you don't realise how deeply you've connected with until you're in a room full of people singing every single word with you.

That was the energy in the room.

The audience knew the songs. They felt the songs. They weren't simply watching Nathi perform — they were experiencing his music.

And I was right there with them!

Two Hours of Beautiful Music

What I appreciated most about the show was the way Nathi allowed the music to speak.

There was no need to overcomplicate the experience. The music, the vocals, the musicianship and the emotion carried the evening.

Nathi has a very particular way of delivering music. There is vulnerability in his voice, but there is also strength. His songs have that ability to meet you wherever you are emotionally.

And judging by the audience's reaction, I wasn't the only one feeling it.

There were people singing at the top of their lungs. People dancing. People smiling from ear to ear. And there were even people in tears.

That, for me, is one of the biggest testaments to the kind of music Nathi creates.

When your music can make somebody dance, reminisce, celebrate, reflect and even shed a tear, you've created something that goes beyond entertainment.

You've created a connection.

A Celebration of Nathi’s Craft

The Buyelekhaya Tour felt like a celebration of everything Nathi represents as an artist.

There's something incredibly special about watching a musician who understands their craft and is able to communicate it authentically to a live audience. You could feel the experience in the performance and the confidence that comes with knowing your music has touched people.

And for me, that's what made the night so enjoyable.

It wasn't just about hearing the songs I love. It was about seeing those songs come alive in a completely different way.

Live music has a way of doing that.

A song you've listened to hundreds of times can suddenly feel completely different when you're standing in a room with thousands of other people experiencing the same emotion.

Emperors Palace Was Alive!

The atmosphere throughout the venue was incredible.

There was so much love in the room. You could feel that people had come specifically to celebrate Nathi and his music, and they were not going to let the opportunity pass them by.

From the first moments of the show to the final notes, the crowd remained engaged.

And me?

I was singing every song word for word!

At some point I probably stopped being an audience member and became part of the backing vocals!

But honestly, that's the beauty of a great concert. You lose yourself in the moment.

Thank You, Nathi

Nathi, thank you for sharing your beautiful craft with us.

Thank you for giving us music that makes us feel. Thank you for creating songs that people can attach memories, emotions and experiences to. And thank you for giving us a night where we could simply forget everything else and enjoy great music.

The Buyelekhaya Tour wasn't just a concert for me. It was a reminder of how powerful South African music can be when an artist is given the space to truly connect with their audience.

Seeing a sold-out venue celebrating your music is an achievement worth acknowledging, and after experiencing the show, I completely understand why the tour has resonated so strongly with people.

Two hours. No sitting. Just singing, dancing, feeling and celebrating.

Ooooooh myyyy… what a beautiful show!

Nathi, you understood the assignment!

I mean… DUHHHH!

A beautiful evening, a beautiful audience, beautiful music and an artist who reminded us exactly what it means to connect through song.

Thank you, Nathi. We were definitely HOME.
